One of my big projects this year was the Heirloom Family Registry designed by Sandy Orton and sold by Kooler Design Studios.
I did quite a bit re-design on it so that it fit my needs. Instead of stitching additional family members on pieces of cloth to be ironed to the side "trellises" I designed these into the pattern, and removed the bottom ovals. These were replaced by the flower trio at the top of the trellises in the original pattern. At the top of the trellises, I used leaf and rose motifs from the pattern. In addition, I filled in the side green spheres. I reached out to KDS Customer Service to try to get an access to an older version of the pattern I had seen from some other stitcher's finished photos, including the butterfly, rabbit, flowers, etc. to fill in the gaps in the trees, but never heard back. I also noticed a few errors in the chart where they had incompletely removed stitches from the bottom right hare and had missing stitches in the center greenery above the center oval. As a small designer, it sure did rub me the wrong way to see such a big studio charging a substantial amount for a pattern (a fee I don't think fellow Etsy sellers could get away with) while selling a product with clear mistakes in the mockup. Designing and finishing this project was very meaningful to me, and meaningful to gift to my parents. I used a local framer to get a custom frame. We chose a burlap mat that went well with the ivory evenweave with an accent mat in the dark mauve color that is a minor feature in the pattern. The frame, which you can't see in the photos, looks like dark brown leather, and is a great "updated classic" look that I think would go with any of my parents' decor.
