Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! I am still feeling a bit in limbo from being between my Bailey Marie and Me Wordpress site and this weebly site. It seems the traffic has been redirected over here rather successfully, but the stat tracking isnt as good and the format of Blogs versus Pages is a bit different. In the past I have heavily recommended Weebly for its ease of design and use, and despite these small drawbacks I still stand by that statement! Enough seriousness and on to the holiday celebrations! I have found myself perusing Pinterest and Google for Christmas decorations, ornaments, crafts, and especially dessert goodies. I had a baking marathon a few weeks ago much to the ecstatic dismay ("These are so good! -- but you're going to make me so fat!") of my co-workers. I tried home-made Samoa bar cookies, browned butter caramel snickerdoodles, candy brownies, and more. Interested in the recipes I test-drove? Leave a comment and I'll let you know. What's your favorite part of the holiday season? I have found in my interactions with so many different people, from so many different places, over my last few years in school that everyone has their own memories and traditions that stay ingrained as soon as the brisk weather arrives. Decorating the tree is a big deal in my house, and I have always welcomed the transformation of the house from Thanksgiving harvest to Christmas and Yuletide. Last season I started pinning Christmas decorations and ornament ideas, starting to think of how my house will be decorated when the time comes. The season fever has returned and I'm excited to share! DIY Character Ornaments from Crazy Little Projects What a wonderful idea to make an ornament for each of your children - their favorite character! You could even use paint pen on the back for their name, the character's name, and the year. For this project, she uses clear glass bulb ornaments, Americana Multi Surface Satin paints, ribbon to hang them, and adhesive vinyl if your heart desires. You fill the ornament with paint and shake it to cover the inside, and then design the face with adhesive vinyl or paint. DIY Ribbon Wreath Ornament No tutorial for this one! But I think it can be achieved through some trial and error. You'll need soda pop can tabs and red & green ribbon. It looks like this wreath ornament isn't made from two separate rings, but is built as you go to incorporate both layers and both colors of ribbon. Very cute recycling ornament. DIY Santa Ornament from ABC The Chew For this whimsical project you'll need a small wood paintbrush, a paintbrush to actually paint with, white red peach and pink paint, cotton balls, a black marker or paint pen (or black paint with a small brush) and hot glue. Paint the bristles white, leave the ends unpainted. Then paint the metal part of the brush peach, the handle red, and allow the paint to dry to the touch in between each step. Pull some cotton to create the fur hat trim; the mustache; and the ball at the top of the handle. Hot glue these. Brush small pink circles onto the face for rosy cheeks and add two black dots for eyes. Reindeer Yarn Art from Delightful Deets How fun are these? Have you ever done yarn art before? There are so many different styles you could do these in to match your home. Check out the photos and see what you like. Never done yarn art? Here's a basic how-to: You'll need wood, nails with a decent head on them, a hammer and thin rope from Home Depot/Lowes. Also, paper and a pattern. Paint or stain the wood if you like (sand also if you want). Print or trace your pattern onto the paper, place on the wood piece. Space your nails evenly (smaller for a smaller piece, further apart for a larger piece of art). Hammer your nails onto the outline, on the paper. Tear the paper away and get ready to string! Tie an end of the string around the head of one nail and criss-cross over the pattern until you get the effect you want! You can also outline it for more of a POP! Floating Christmas Tree from Not Martha Christmas trees can be heavy, and are not always the most practical idea for a small space. They also require maintenance and care, and decorating and un-decorating (and storage space to store all those decorations!) If you're looking for an easier alternative, or a modern twist, check out this Christmas tree mobile. She used a steamer rack, lightweight jack chain, carabiners, ornament hooks, monofilament jewelry string, jewelry crimp beeds and crimping tool, and lanyard hooks. And ornaments of course. Just a warning - she did use about 100 of each type of supply to make a 4 foot tree. She provides you with all the measurements. Have fun! DIY Sock Snowmen from Dark Room and Dearly How adorable are these? And a perfect use for crew socks missing their sole-mates. She uses rice to fill them, rubber bands to divide them, and scrap fabric and extra buttons to decorate. She used map pins (could also use sewing pins) and color black for eyes. You can then add hats and sweaters for a cute finish. I hope you enjoyed these ideas. Happy Holidays.
Blessings,
